Dr. Thomas Michael Breunig, Roxbury/Sauk City, age 54 died Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at his home. He was born July 23, 1960, in Baraboo to Donald and Margaret (Speth) Breunig. Tom received his BS from MSOE in Mechanical Engineering, MS from U.W. Madison in Metallurgical Engineering and PhD from Georgia Institute of Technology in Material Science. He was a proud alumni of Kappa Eta Kappa Fraternity. His career path has taken him to Sandia Livermore National Lab, U.C. San Francisco, and finally to Coating Place, Inc. in Verona, WI.
When not enlightening those he encountered on all topics of science, Tom worked to perfect his skills as a chef. Over the years he has become an avid wine collector which will be used in holiday toasts for years to come. Tom recently rediscovered a passion for rowing. He rowed in college and more recently became president of the Mendota Rowing Club. Tom also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and relaxing with friends and family in Minocqua.
In addition to his parents, Tom is survived by three brothers: Kendall (Diane), Tim (Sheryl), Terry (Laura) and sisters Vicki and Sumalee (Sompong) Asa. He is further survived by nieces and nephews: Jill (Marcus) Riefel, Lisa Severson, April (Jason) Corrao, Jeremy, Nicole, Dallas and Elise Breunig, AJ and Nicky Asa and five great nieces and nephews: Lily, Lexie, Ryan, Jaxon and Alana as well as other extended family and friends.
Tom was preceded in death by his grandparents, Gerhard and Frances (Suchomel) Breunig and Edmund and Hilda (Eckstein) Speth, and godfather, Michael Speth.
Visitation will be held at Hooverson Funeral Home, 251 Water St, Sauk City, WI from 3:00-7:00 pm on Friday, August 15, 2014, as well as 10:00-10:45 am on Saturday, August 16, 2014. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2014, at 11:00 am at St. Norbert’s Catholic Church in Roxbury. Interment will be held at St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery.
