Turner, Samuel B., aged 86, passed away July 23, 2013 in Madison.
He was born September 27, 1926 in West Virginia to Emmett and Amy Turner and served in the United States Navy during WWII. After the war, Sam had a successful career with the University of Wisconsin Madison where he was recognized for thirty years of faithful service and also received the Governor's Special Award from then governor, Tommy Thompson. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge Commonwealth #325. Sam had a wry sense of humor and enjoyed gentle teasing with everyone. He enjoyed the great outdoors, particularly fishing on the Mississippi River, and sharing this pleasure with his grandchildren. He could fillet and cook the catch as well. He also liked flower and vegetable gardening.
Sam is preceded in death by his parents, wife Janet Lee Turner and one son, Michael L. Turner. He is survived by four grandchildren Christilynn Meyer (Tom), Dachelle Hughes, Mark Turner, and Kirk Turner, seven great grandchildren as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
A visitation will be held at the Cress Center, 6021 University Ave., Madison, WI 53705 on Monday, July 29, 2013 from 10:00a.m. to 11:00a.m. with a Masonic service beginning at 11:00a.m. followed with a Celebration of Life in Memory of Samuel Turner. Burial to follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
