Sally Ann Slater, age 76 of Blanchardville died on Tuesday evening, March 4, 2014 at the home of her daughter in rural Blanchardville. She was born on April 8, 1937 in Harvard, Illinois to Bernard & Thelma Ann (Eckert) O’Brien. She grew up in Harvard. She spent 4 years in Japan from 1955-1959. Sally returned to Harvard and worked at Admiral TV where she met her future husband, Dewaine Slater. They were married on September 16, 1961 in Harvard. Sally loved camping with Dewaine, their children and grandchildren through the years. In 1978 they moved to Blanchardville, and then started a veal farm in 1979. They retired from the farm in 1995. She then worked at Argyle Industries until they closed, and then worked at the Blanchardville Ampride convenience store. Sally retired from there in January, 2013. She loved flower gardening and bowling, and taking care of her family. She especially loved Christmas and the family gatherings at that time.

Sally is survived by two children, “Shelly” Michele (Daniel) DeHaan of rural Blanchardville, and “Tiger” Dewaine (Jan) Slater of rural Blanchardville; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren with one on the way; her mother-in-law, Doris Dickinson of Walworth, WI; and a daughter-in-law, Jolene Slater of Capron, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Dewaine who died on March 16, 2010; a son Steven Slater who died on September 29, 1994; and three brothers, Larry, Richard and Ronald O’Brien.

Private family services will be held at the York Memorial Lutheran Church in rural Blanchardville. Rev. Mark Gruner will officiate. Burial will be in the York Memorial Cemetery.
