MADISON-Ruth Marie Lily Peterson, age 99, formerly of Phillips, Wis., and McAllen, Texas, passed away on Monday, May 12, 2014 at Oakwood Village University Woods, Madison, where she resided for the past five years.
She was born on June 12, 1914, in Rib Lake, Wis., to Herman C. and Rose (Wagner) Batzer. She was baptized and confirmed at Saint John Lutheran Church and graduated from Rib Lake High School. Ruth married Orville A. Peterson in Rib Lake on August 26, 1935. They moved to Phillips in 1937. Ruth was a homemaker, organizer, inveterate volunteer, traveler and life-long learner. She was active and held offices in many church and civic groups.
She is survived by daughters Karen Baumgartner and Nadine Peterson; sons Peter (Janice), James (Carole), Larry (DeEtta), and Michael (Mary); 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Harriet Reese; foster brother, Andrew Boneski; and sisters-in-law Anne Batzer, Ruth Schumann and Ruby Nolan. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Arla Sweet; brothers Philip, Robert, David and Byron Batzer; grandson Matthew and great-grandson Max Peterson.

A memorial service is planned for July 5, 2014 at Saint John Lutheran Church in Phillips, Wis. Inurnment will take place at Lakeside-Two Lakes Cemetery, Phillips, Wis.
