Rosemarie E. Durow

Rosemarie E. Durow, age 76, passed away suddenly on Monday, August 18, 2014 at the Columbus Community Hospital. She was born on September 21, 1937 in Portage, WI to Joseph and Viola (Breul) Fenske.

Rosie was a 1955 graduate of Portage High School. She was married to David Durow on September 14, 1957 in Portage and they settled in to raise their family near Astico, WI.

Rosie was employed in communications at the Columbus Community Hospital for many years and also worked seasonally at the Wisconsin Cheeseman in Sun Prairie to ensure there were always enough Christmas gifts to go around. She was a dedicated member of St. Columbkille Catholic Church and its Altar Society.

Family was always the most important thing in Rosie's life. When they were younger, she spent countless hours at her children's sporting and school events, and later, always looked forward to every family gathering to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren too.

Together, she and Dave started the annual tradition of the family vacation to Door County, which the family still plans each year to this day. Rosie and Dave also took time for themselves in a couples bowling league for many years, leaving the older kids home to watch after the younger ones, so that they could enjoy a much-needed night out with friends.

Rosie tended a large garden for many years and enjoyed watching the Badgers, Brewers and Packers. Her cheers and friendly advice were most certainly heard, through the television, by the players themselves.

Whether it was a new child learning a new instrument each year, a rock band taking shape in her basement, or leading the parade of honking cars to welcome the winning team back home – Rosie was the original ultimate fan and her greatest joy in life was her family. She offered them a sometimes firm hand, but always unconditional love – always an open home and loving arms.

Survivors include three sons, Dennis (Trisha Doyle) of Monona, Daniel (Brandi) of Lake Mills, and Joseph (Gail Mountford) of Sun Prairie; three daughters, Julie (Dariel) Diancin and Janet (Mike Caleb) Durow of Sun Prairie, and Jennifer (John) Kolinski of Dane; 14 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; a sister, Anne (Bob) Bina of Brown Deer; a brother, Tom Fenske of Jacksonville FL; other relatives and friends.

Rosie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dave, in 2002 and her daughter, Debra on April 1, 2014.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 P.M., with visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, August 22, 2014 at ST COLUMBKILLE CATHOLIC CHURCH, Town of Elba. Rev. Bob Bales will officiate. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.
