COLUMBUS/STOUGHTON - Ronald E. Steindl age 88 died on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at Azura Memory Care in Stoughton.

He was born on June 7, 1925 in Edgerton to Emery and Eva (Haylock) Steindl. Ron was a 1943 graduate of Edgerton High School and attended several naval electrical schools. He was an electrician’s mate in the U.S. Navy during WW II. He was married to Laura Hauan and together had four children. He enjoyed his work as the director of member services for Columbus Rural Electric for 22 years. Ron was married to Marcella Powers on October 30, 1970 until her death in 1993. Ron was married to Elizabeth “Betty” Boness on October 24, 1995 in South Carolina. He was a member of the Lange-Ostrander-Hurd American Legion Post 62 and the Masonic Lodge F & AM #75 of Columbus. Ron was a former City of Columbus councilman and was a member of the Columbus United Methodist Church.

Survivors include three daughters; Nancy (Ronald) Bullian of Edgerton, Betsy Carlstrom of Mt. Horeb, Debbie (Steve) Petschel of Mora MN; one son, James (Mel) Steindl of Stoughton; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a brother, Dean (Mary) of Florence SC; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wives; a sister and brother-in-law, Florence and Dick Thompson. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. on Thursday, July 18, 2013 at the Jensen funeral home, Columbus. Pastor Jim Cotter will officiate. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Columbus with full military honors. Visitation will be from 1:30 P.M. until 2:30 P.M. on Thursday. Memorials may be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project.
