Robert (Bob) Clayton Snyder

MADISON- Robert (Bob) Clayton Snyder passed away Monday, July 21, 2014, surrounded by his family at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg.

Bob was born on Dec. 31, 1934, in Decatur, Ill., the son of Raymond and Bonnie Snyder. He graduated from Ottawa, Ill. High School and attended Illinois State University in Southern Ill. where he met the love of his life, Marcine Wilkins, on Oct. 28, 1956. They raised 3 loving children.

Bob was a manager of Piggly Wiggly Grocery Stores, starting out in Ill., which then brought him to Madison, Wis. where he was manager at Eagle Food Grocery Store. After 15 years in the grocery business he changed careers and worked for Hamilton Supply, and eventually Frank Liquor where he retired in 2000.

Bob is survived by his wife, Marcine Snyder; daughters, Kathy (Dick) Hockett and Doreen (Kevin) Reilly; sister, Carolyn Sharp; sister-in-law, Midge Wilkins; grandsons, Kyle Reilly, Joshua, Mike and Paul Hockett; granddaughters, Kim Reilly and Kathryn (Jarred) White; great-granddaughter Jaydyn White; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Don; and his son, Jeff.

Robert loved baseball, and even tried out for the Washington Senators and loved the St. Louis Cardinals. He was a big Chicago Bear fan and raised all 3 kids to be Bear fans. Bob was a hardworking man, you could tell by just looking at his hands, but he did enjoy his retirement traveling to Florida in their 5th wheel to escape cold Wisconsin winters. He loved working around the house and took a lot of pride in his yard work, and it showed. Bob was an amazing man. He was a wonderful husband, Dad, and Papa. He was liked and loved by all. One of the finest men you'll ever meet.

Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 25, 2014, with the Rev. Jerry Amstutz presiding. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
