Richard “Rick” C. Bott, age 59, died March 21st. Born in Chicago and longtime resident of Libertyville, IL, Richard spent much of his life seeking the paradise he found at his home at Pine Hollow in rural Sauk County, WI for the past 15 years.

Known as the “barn guy,” the largely self taught man spent his life restoring and converting what he called Prairie Cathedrals. Always an adventurer, those who knew Rick wouldn’t be surprised to find him hiking his beloved Baraboo Hills, shirt off and in his cowboy boots, or on a remote mountain top someplace between Yosemite and Tibet. A conservationist, he leaves his little piece of Earth better than he found it.

With a personality that could and often did fill many a great room, Rick will be missed by all who knew him, especially those who had the pleasure of engaging with him in lively conversation over a scotch.

Rick joins his mother Lottie and father Martin, leaving behind his adored wife Debbie; children Eric (Elaina) Bott of Madison and Katie (Leo) Joyce of Weehawken, NJ, grandsons Xavier and Maddox who knew him as Grandpa “Yaboom!,” brother Daniel of Amasa, MI, many nieces and nephews, and his black lab Moki.

Private services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Baraboo chapter of the Nature Conservancy.
