Richard Louis Weygant, 85, of Platteville, passed away peacefully on Friday July 4, 2014 at Manor Care Health Services, Platteville. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Rev. Brenda Whitford will officiate. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post #42 and VFW Post #5274. Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday July 7, 2014 at Melby Funeral Home & Crematory or from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the Richard L. Dick was born on July 15, 1928 in Platteville, the son of Clarence and Lela (Smith) Weygant. He was united in marriage to Alice Hocking-Benson on April 7, 1957 at the Congregational Church of Platteville. He served in the United States National Guard. He worked for 27 years as an inspector for John Deere Tractor Works in Dubuque Iowa. He was a dedicated member of the United Auto Makers Union (UAW) Local 94 and a staunch supporter of the Democratic Party. He enjoyed reading, singing, telling jokes, and watching the History Channel and the World Wrestling Federation. Richard is survived by children Donna (David) Gough, Dennis (Laura) Benson, Nancy (Ryan) Berg, Linda Weygant, and Michael (Belinda) Weygant; grandchildren Sonja Gough, Shane Gough, Shad (Brenda) Gough, Dennis Jr. Benson, Crystal Benson, Jaklyn Hauser, David Clauer, Dan Clauer, Josh (Heather), Clauer, Sara (Peter) Schroeder, Ryley Berg, Hallie Berg, Brandon Solberg, Soloman Solberg, and Emma Solberg; 31 great grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Alice, on July 12, 1994; brother Robert and parents Clarence and Lela.
