FITCHBURG -

Richard J. Carman, age 81, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, July 11, 2013, after a long illness.

He was born on Jan. 14, 1932, in Madison, to Vera M. (Breitenbach) and Charles W. Carman. He was united in marriage on July 9, 1955, to Berndetta A. Schneider in Oregon. He was a proud graduate of East High School and the UW-Madison and was a long time employee of the Klein-Dickert Company, Madison.

Richard loved his home state, loved to laugh and make others laugh, loved to listen to music, to sing but most of all loved his family, friends, and good company.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Berndetta; daughter, Elizabeth Weber (Thomas) of Laguna Niguel, Calif.; sons, Thomas (Jeanne) of Fitchburg and Daniel (Rae) of Madison; daughter-in-law, Nancy of Verona; and grandchildren, Marie, Kevin, Nicholas and Sarah.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charles and David; and son, Steven.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at HOLY MOTHER OF CONSOLATION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 651 N. Main St., Oregon, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 17, 2013, with Father Gary Wankerl presiding.

Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass on Wednesday.
