MADISON-Raymond P. Cattell, age 97, of Monona, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, April 24, 2013.

He was born on Dec. 26, 1915, in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of James and Ethel Cattell. Ray served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II. On Feb. 15, 1947, Ray married Helen Negaard in Chicago, Ill. Ray owned and operated his building business, Raymond P. Cattell, Inc. until his retirement in 1985. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time at their farm in Adams County.

Ray is survived by his wife of 66 years, Helen of Monona; sons, Spencer (Candy) of Madison and Wade (Jodi) of Stoughton; daughter-in-law, Gail Cattell of Fort Atkinson; two granddaughters, Tanya Fenner (Joel) of Appleton and Melinda Charbonneau (Chris) of Byron, Ill.; step-grandson, Jason Prestigiacomo (Jenny); eight great-grandchildren, Rae and Samantha Fenner, Isaac, Benjamin and Cooper Charbonneau and Abby, Jake and Cade Prestigiacomo; and niece, Sharon (Larry) Tobin of River Grove, Ill. Ray was preceded in death by his son, Martin “Skid” Cattell in 1993.

Funeral services will be held at ST. STEPHEN’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 5700 Pheasant Hill Road, Monona, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2013, with the Rev. Tim Hansen and the Rev. Nick Utphall presiding. Burial will follow the service at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday.
