Belleville, WI/Quinn E. Quirk , age 85, of Belleville passed away on April 21, 2014 at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison.
Quinn was born on June 6, 1928 in Milwaukee. Quinn grew up in Milwaukee and Wauwatosa. At age16 he lied about his age and enlisted in the Army Air Corps and was stationed in Shanghai. He met his wife on a blind date and married Betty Jean Aiholzer on August 8, 1953. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last summer.
Early in his career he worked for Krueger Sausage, operated a Burger Chef Restaurant after which he worked as a service agent for Curtis Industries. Quinn took an early retirement in 1970. Subsequently the Quirks bought a three acre lot on North Shore Drive in Belleville. Growing apple trees started as a hobby and progressed to an impressive collection of over 1500 trees with roughly 50 varieties of apples. His knowledge of growing apples and using of innovative techniques was well known and the Quirk apples were very popular at the Madison Farmer’s Market. In recent years he and Betty sold apples in the fall at their home. He took great pleasure in planting, pruning, spraying his trees in the company of his cherished feral cats. His ashes will be spread in his orchard.
Quinn is survived by his wife Betty and his brothers Jack and James Quirk.
