Paul O. Wilson, age 82, of Janesville, died at home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013. He was born in Madison on March 21, 1931, the son of Lester and Marjorie (Parr) Wilson. He attended High School in Columbus, WI, and joined the U.S. Air Force on Jan. 5, 1950. During the Korean War, he was stationed as an airplane mechanic in Tripoli, North Africa, and French Morocco, serving his country until 1954. Paul was married to Janet Millard from 1958 to 1976, and together they had four sons. He married Joan (Gramke) Shea on July 7, 1979, and became stepfather to four more sons and one daughter. He worked for General Motors for 36 years, and retired in 1992. Paul enjoyed watching the Brewers, Cubs and the Packer games. He loved playing horseshoes and made many friends while pitching in leagues at the Janesville Moose Club and most recently 20 years with the Beloit Horse Shoe Club. He participated in several world tournaments and won first place at the 2009 Wisconsin State Elders Championship in Platteville, WI. Paul's strength and character, strong work ethic, and selfless devotion to his family is evident in the life he lived and the love he shared so freely.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joan; 4 sons: Steve (Nancy) Wilson of Janesville, Joe (Cindy) Wilson of Reedsburg, Jerry (Betsy) Wilson of Brodhead, and Mike Wilson of Kenosha; 5 step-children: Jeff (Mary) Shea of Sheboygan, Dawn (Craig) Schumacher, Brian (Jennifer Kuzelka) Shea, Kent (Lisa) Shea and Kevin (Brinda) Shea all of Janesville; 22 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 6 older sisters; and 1 brother and sister-in-law.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at ST. WILLIAM CATHOLIC CHURCH with Rev. John Auby officiating. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Lasting Memorials may be made to St. William Catholic Church.
