Michael J. LaPorte, Sr., age 91, of Mauston, Wisconsin died Saturday, October 12, 2013, at Fairview Nursing Home in Mauston.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Mauston, with Father Valentine Joseph and Father James Pallardy co-celebrating. Burial will be at St. Patrick's Cemetery. Military Rites will be provided by the Burton-Koppang American Legion Post # 81 of Mauston. Visitation will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:30 a.m.
Michael was born April 28, 1922, in Chicago, the son of Salvatore and Sarah (Turrisi) LaPorte. He served in the US Army during WWII in the South Pacific Theater from 1941-1945. He married Roselind Tammone in Chicago, IL, on June 19, 1948. In 1973 they moved to the Mauston area where he opened his own barber shop. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and growing his apples and grapes. He also enjoyed driving his Model A Ford but his passion was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Michael is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Roselind; his sons, Michael, Jr. (Sandy) of Mauston, Kenneth (Beverly) of Lyndon Station, WI and John (Carol) of Marshfield, WI; his daughter, Patricia (Michael) Kierski of Sauk City, WI; his grandchildren, Adam, who preceded him in death in 2009, Gwendolyn, Jacquelyn, Robert, Fredrick, Samuel, Andrew, Rebecca, Katharine, Michael and Benjamin and his 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Patrick’s Catholic School in Mauston.
