Merlin B. Bartels, 83, of Belmont, died on Thursday, November 22, 2012 at Lancaster Care Center.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 26, 2012 at the Melby-Bendorf Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Father Bernard Rott will officiate. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery, Belmont. Friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Melby-Bendorf Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, or from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday. Merlin was born on October 29, 1929 in Belmont, Wisconsin, the son of Herman and Bertha (Heins) Bartels. He was united in marriage to Geraldine Wiest on November 22, 1954 in Cassville. She preceded him in death on December 20, 1989. Merlin was a lifelong farmer in Belmont Township, drove cement truck for Lycon Redi Mix in Platteville, and enjoyed bowling.
He is survived by five children, Terry Bartels of Belmont, WI; Melanie Herbstreith of New Berlin, WI; Marsha (Al) Brant of New London, WI; Tom Bartels of Pulaski, WI; Diane Bartels of Fennimore, WI; nine grandchildren; one brother, Irvin Bartels of Darlington, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents, two grandsons, Jordyn Bartels and Jamie Brant, three brothers, John, Leo, and Harold, six sisters, Helen, Edna, Minnie, Cecelia, Lucille, and Ella.
