Merel C. Freiman

MADISON-Merel C. Freiman, age 90, passed away on Monday, Feb. 11, 2013. He was born on Feb. 5, 1923, in Madison, the son of Alexander and Mable (Froland) Freiman. Merel married Ruth Adkison on June 7, 1942, in Madison; she preceded him in death on June 30, 2000. He was a veteran World War II, having earned a bronze star, serving with the U.S. Army in the Philippines and Guam. Merel was employed by the City of Madison Parks Department and as an electrician for several years before being employed for Madison Metropolitan School District. He was a member and past commander of American Legion No. 481, and also a member of VFW Post No. 7591. Merel was one of the first participants on the very first Madison Badger Honor Flight. He had a variety of interests and especially enjoyed riding his bike and camping with his family and friends.

Merel is survived by his children, Dale (Donna), Dean (Linda Capcio), Colleen (Tom) Tetzloff, and Betsy (David) Weeden; nine grandchildren, Kristine, Michael, Paige, April, Kari, Talysin, Aaron, Christopher, and Alexander; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Arlene Krahl. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Carol Dyer and Annie Peterson.

Private family services will be held. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Agrace HospiceCare for their loving care of Merel.
