MADISON- Mat “Mick” Dew, 63, of Madison, was born Dec. 9, 1949, to Matthew Dew II and Evelyn (Ashbaugh) Dew in Fargo, N. D. He graduated from Bottineau High School, class of 1967.
Mat earned an undergraduate degree in political science from Harvard University in 1971. From Harvard, he joined the Army and was stationed in Washington, DC for 3 years. Mat continued on to the University of Wisconsin to complete his law degree. He married Karla Clemetson on June 12, 1976.
They had two sons, Mike, of Madison, and Steve and wife (Kristen) of Arvada, Colo. He joined National Guardian Life as legal counsel in 1999. He retired in 2007, from the Wisconsin Army National Guard after 25 years as a JAG officer. Mat was advisor to the UW Circle K (Kiwanis) for several years and recently became president of the Downtown Kiwanis of Madison.
After losing his wife, Karla to cancer in 2010, he married Jane Schlenvogt-Dew on Dec. 26, 2011. Mat remained optimistic throughout his two-year battle with esophageal cancer drawing strength from his Christian faith in Jesus.
A celebration of worship and praise will be held at ST. ANDREW LUTHERAN CHURCH, 6815 Schneider Rd, Middleton, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday November 20, 2013 with the Reverend Randy Hunter presiding.
Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL HOME, 7435 University Ave, on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 from 4-8 pm and from 9:30 from the time of services at church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mat’s memory to the Carbone Center for Esophageal cancer, 600 Highland Ave., Madison, WI 53792.
