Madison-Mary Kay Woollen (Lawinger), age 49, passed away on August 30, 2014 at Agrace Hospice in Fitchburg.

She was born in Dodgeville, WI on January 22, 1965 to Margaret (McGraw) and Daniel Lawinger. The oldest of their five children, she graduated from Dodgeville High School in 1983. Mary Kay married Jeff Woollen on October 15, 1988, and loved his children Jenny and Tim from the moment she met them. She and Jeff were blessed by the birth of Zachary on February 10, 2001. Along with being a wonderful mother, wife, daughter, sister, niece, cousin and friend, Mary Kay will be remembered for her positive attitude, courage and her determination to fight colon cancer.

She loved gatherings with family and friends, all were very important to her. She especially loved going to the farm she grew up on near Dodgeville and spending time with her mother and family. Mary Kay dearly loved her aunts, uncles, and cousins. She most recently worked at UWHC Fiscal Affairs where she cherished her co-workers.

Mary Kay enjoyed traveling and had fun memories summer vacation on Bass Lake. Many of her friends have been a huge support during her cancer journey.

Mary Kay is survived by her loving husband Jeff, her daughter Jenny (Tracy Minkoff) Woollen, and sons Zach and Tim (Misty Nelson) Woollen; her mother Margaret Lawinger; siblings, Dan (Dawn) Lawinger, Connie (Mark) Scheld, Lori (Tom) McKinlay, and Larry Lawinger; niece and nephews McKenzie, Parker, Grant, and Kyra Scheld, Avery and Landon McKinlay, Amber (Brandon), Sienna, Harper, and Kiera Hastings; special cousin Mike (Nancy) Udelhofen and their children Marc (Anna) and Carly (Brandon Zick); her sister and brothers-in-law, Mike (Brenda) Woollen, Terry (Kathie) Gaus-Woollen, and Debbie (Ron) McFall.

Mary Kay was preceded in death by her father Danny Lawinger; grandparents John and Kay McGraw, Herman and Emma Lawinger; father and mother-in-law Robert and Marian Woollen.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Wednesday, September 3, 2014, at ST. MARIA GORETTI CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5313 Flad Ave, with Msgr. Michael Burke officiating. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2014, from 4pm to 8pm at JOYCE-RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 5701 Odana Rd. A second visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 10am until the time of service. A private burial will take place in Ridgeway, WI.

Mary Kay and her family would like to thank Dr. Sam Lubner, UW Hospital and Clinic Carbone Cancer doctors and staff for the kindness and care throughout her illness. They would also like to thank the entire St. Maria Goretti family for the many prayers and overwhelming support, and the staff at Agrace Hospice for their care.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Maria Goretti School or UWHC Carbone Cancer Center-Colon Cancer would be appreciated.
