Dodgeville - Mary A. Singer, age 88, of Dodgeville, peacefully went home to her Lord on Thursday, December 12, 2013.
Mary was born in Dodgeville on May 1, 1925 the daughter of Julia (McCarthy) and Robert Moore. Mary was united in marriage to her adoring husband of 65 years, Charles W. (Bill) Singer, on June 5, 1948 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dodgeville. Together they founded Singer Lumber Company in 1953 where they worked side by side until Mary dedicated her life to the love, care and nurturing of their children.
Mary was an avid golfer who enjoyed countless hours with Bill and friends at Dodge-Point Country Club. Always humble at her accomplishments Mary was a fierce competitor who won many tournaments and club championships. Mary and Bill were a couple; always seen together, be it at Badger football games or a bridge table. Together they enjoyed the companionship of so many great friends throughout the years. Mary was a parishioner of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church all her life. She actively volunteered her time to the local hospital and hospice care.
Mary is survived by her loving husband Bill; her daughter Penny Singer and grandchildren Steven, Jeffrey, Wendy and Amanda; her daughter Ann (Phil) Brown and grandchildren Matthew, Sean, Nicholas and Meghan; her son Tim (Wendy) Singer and grandchildren Joseph and Jennifer. Mary is further survived by her sisters Margie (Jack) Flynn, Carol Gates and Jan (Ken) Schwingle and nine great grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by two infant sons, her parents, her sister Kathryn Anderson, her brothers Robert Moore and Thomas Moore and sisters Colleen Burns and JoAnn (Kroll) Hohler.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at ST. JOSEPH’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, Dodgeville, with Father Patrick Wendler officiating and Father Paul Ugo Arinze concelebrating. Burial will be held in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the GORGEN-McGINLEY & AYERS FUNERAL HOME in Dodgeville, with a parish rosary at 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St Joseph’s Catholic Church or Upland Hills Health Foundation.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Doctor’s and staff of Upland Hills Health, Upland Hills Hospice, Dodgeville EMS and Crest Ridge Assisted Living. A special thanks for his compassion and care is due Dr. Gordon Grieshaber.
Mary will be missed by all so fortunate to have known her. Though it is hard to say goodbye we find comfort knowing she is united in faith with God.
