Louise M. Mazurek, age 91, of Reedsburg, Wisconsin passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at the Sauk County Health Care Center in Reedsburg.

Services were held privately, by her family.

Louise was born September 10, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of Leo and Helen (Urban) Kawczynski. She graduated from St. Josephenum High School as Valedictorian in 1941 in Chicago, Illinois. She married Edward Joseph Mazurek on December 27, 1943 in Chicago. Louise was both a homemaker and a landlord in Chicago, managing a four-flat while raising six kids and taking great care of her husband, meeting her life head-on. She loved to sew, and created many beautiful clothes for herself and her children. She was an excellent baker and cook, and every holiday she baked extra so she could send home treats with all six kids and company. Her passions included gardening, history, cultural music, and camping. She loved fishing all over the U.S. but had a particular fondness for the many lakes of Wisconsin and their Northern Pike, her favorite fish to catch and eat. Camping trips often included places of a historical nature, as she thought there was always more time to learn something about our country. She had a great mind and talent for the stock market, becoming successful with her choices, and read the Wall Street Journal daily. After the kids were raised and on their own, her greatest love was traveling to faraway places; her favorites included Hungary, Germany, Czechoslovakia, France, Poland, where she sought out war memorials, palaces and historical sights, as well as Mexico and Alaska, for their natural beauty. She was a native of Chicago, having a great fondness for the lakefront of Lake Michigan, which she could see out her windows, until 2006 when she moved to assisted living in Reedsburg to be near her two daughters, Christine and Madeleine.

Louise is survived by her sons, Lawrence (Catherine) Mazurek of Baileys Harbor, Wisconsin and Mark Mazurek of Campton Hills, Illinois; daughters, Ann (Warren) Lopour of Rochester, Minnesota, Christine (Anthony) Mangano of LaValle, Wisconsin, Carol (Tim Holzer) Mazurek of Tucson, Arizona and Madeleine Kern of Reedsburg, Wisconsin; a brother, Leo (Marcie) Kawczynski of Harwood Heights, Illinois; a sister, Helen Ciupinski of Niles, Illinois and 6 grandchildren.
