Lloyd "Dusty" Kempfer, age 89, of Madison died on Friday, June 14, 2013.
He was born on May 26, 1924, in the Township of Middleton, the 16th child of Fred Kempfer Sr., and Rosa (Warner) Kempfer. Dusty was united in marriage to Mary Yust on Oct. 5, 1946, at the Evangelical Reformed Church in Madison.
Dusty served in the U.S. Army, with the 87th Infantry Division in Mississippi, South Carolina, and the European Theater as a member of the 345th Infantry Regiment.
He took part in many activities, such as bowling, (serving as secretary-treasurer and president), golfing, card playing, and traveling. He enjoyed visiting cousins in Switzerland. Dusty was a St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan from the age of 14 years old.
Dusty was an active member of the Memorial United Church of Christ in Fitchburg, and belonged to VFW Post 7591. Dusty was proud to be part of the Badger Honor Flight on May 4, 2013. He retired from Omeda in June 1987.
Dusty is survived by his wife, Mary; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers and sisters, Josephine Goth, Fred Jr., Hilda Selje, Waldo, Clara Hefty, Viola Hohlstein, Laura, Alvin, Gladys Harrison, Vernon, Wilbert, Marion, Gilman, Edna Schneider and Rosie Huber.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 24, 2013, at the GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 23, 2013, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the funeral home, and also on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the services.
