Leonard Frank Meyer, 86, of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, while surrounded by his family, passed away on Friday October 14, 2016, at Sunset Ridge Memory Care in Jefferson, Wisconsin.

A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Jefferson, Wisconsin, with visitation from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and followed by a funeral mass officiated by Father Tom Coyle. Burial services are being held after mass at St. Joseph Cemetery in Fort Atkinson, WI. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Southeastern Wisconsin Chapter Alzheimer's Association.

Leonard was born on November 6, 1929, to John and Angeline (Gladycz) Meyer of Milwaukee. He graduated from Notre Dame High School in Milwaukee, and in 1948 enlisted into the Army serving his country in Anchorage, Alaska repairing and maintaining US fighter planes used during the Korean War. Leonard married Genevieve (Genny) DeFino on November 20, 1955, in New York, her home State. It was here that Leonard began his love of business ownership and established a car repair and 24-hour towing service. In 1969, he moved his family to Wisconsin to join a family partnership with his father and two brothers. The 35-year partnership went on to establish two auto body repair shops, a car salvage yard, and finally Meyer's Market Shell convenience store in Helenville. In 2004, at the young age of 75, Leonard retired, but continued his love of car mechanics repairing and remolding pedal cars for his grandchildren and great grandchildren to enjoy. During his retirement years Leonard also enjoyed gardening and watching the birds in his backyard accommodate his array of multiple-shaped birdhouses and feeders. Leonard's full life and endless energy was driven by his thrill of another project at hand, love for Italian food, exercising his gift of gab and sharing his unforgettable humor.

Leonard is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Genny of Fort Atkinson; son Leonard (Denise) Meyer of Greenfield; daughter Kathleen (Jim) Bergner of Fort Atkinson; and daughter Cecelia (Jim) Fiene of Delafield; brothers Raymond of Greendale; and Earnest (Karen) of Dousman; sisters Geraldine of Greendale; and Blondell (Jim) Toshner of Sussex; and several nieces and nephews. He was the loving grandfather to Robert (Melissa) Medina of West Allis; Danielle (Jeff Horst) Medina of Waukesha; Nicholas Meyer of Wauwatosa; David Meyer of Milwaukee; and Kevin Meyer of West Allis; Michael (Mary) Bergner of Chicago, IL; Holly Bergner of Fort Atkinson; and Samantha Bergner of Nashville, TN; Courtney Fiene of Wausau; Jim Fiene of Austin, TX; Brianna and Sam Fiene of Delafield; and 4 great-grandchildren. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, John and Angeline, and sister Delphine Meyer of Greendale.

The Dunlap Memorial Home in Fort Atkinson is assisting the family.
