Lawrence A. “Larry” Ringelstetter, age 92, died on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg. The second of twelve children, he was born on August 26, 1921, in Wilson Creek, Spring Green Township, Sauk County, WI, to Herman and Mary (Lehner) Ringelstetter. After moving with his family to North Bristol at the age of 21, he later met Dorothy, the prettiest girl who lived down the road. On May 8, 1951, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Barman at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in East Bristol. They were blessed with seven children. Together they were successful dairy farmers in Bristol Township until 1968, when they bought a larger farm near Lake Mills that had the longest dairy barn in the state at that time (literally the length of a football field). After retiring in 1980 they returned to the Sun Prairie area. Their hobbies were polka dancing and traveling with the family in their motorhome.

On July 3, 1983, he lost his beloved Dorothy and later met Mary J. (Field) Franke while dancing at the Park Ponderosa. They married on April 12, 1985 in Madison. They also enjoyed polka and ballroom dancing, traveling the U.S. in their Pace Arrow, being “snowbirds” in Arizona for several years, and often cruising the wide open seas. They too were greatly blessed and treasured the love they shared together.

Each morning he read every word of the daily newspaper from cover to cover. He enjoyed being up to date on the politics of the day and was never, ever known to turn down a Snickers Blizzard at Dairy Queen, nor a lunch at Culver’s.

Larry was a quiet, gentle, humble man and was greatly respected and admired for his unquestionable honesty and integrity. A man of deep spiritual faith, he attended daily Mass and lived his life at peace with himself and with his God. Through you God has richly blessed all of us; now enjoy your eternal reward which you so deserve.

He is survived by his soul mate and wife of 29 years, Mary; six children: Phyllis (Vern) Buskager, Dave (Rhonda King), Joann, Ruth, Linda Strohmenger, and Peggy (Howard) Tews; five step-children: Marjorie (John) Kennedy, Laura (Bob) Sargent, Steve Franke, Susan (Bruce) Guenther, and Michael Franke; 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; siblings, Bernice, Beatrice (Dean) Blau, and Richard (Audrey Kuehn); brother-in-law, Paul Durst; sisters-in-law, Margaret, Mary Jane “Janie”, Marlene “Mitzi”, Marilyn, and Kay; and many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife of 32 years, Dorothy; his son, Paul on June 4, 2014; and siblings, Mark (Lillian), Irene Durst, Victor, Mary “Babe” (Roy) Schroud, Louis, Edward, George, and Leonard.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at St. Olaf Catholic Church, 623 Jefferson Street, DeForest, with Fr. Rob Butz officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass on Saturday at the church. Burial will follow at Sun Prairie Memory Gardens.

Memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare Inc. or St. Olaf Catholic Church.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Albert Musa and the staff at Agrace HospiceCare for their extraordinary care.
