MADISON -

LaVerne C. Bostad, age 85, born on June 19, 1927, the son of Clarence and Bessie (McMurran) Bostad-Foss, in Town of Burke, died Wednesday, May 1, 2013.

LaVerne and Carol were married at Bethel Lutheran Church on Feb. 7, 1998. In their short 15 years together, they travelled to Europe, many places in the U.S., and spent winters in Arizona. LaVerne farmed many years in the Town of Burke and DeForest. For health reasons, he joined Lutheran Mutual Life in the early 1960’s. LaVerne then sold farm equipment before working in the carpentry field with Korth Construction of Cambridge, and later for Drexel Interiors of Madison. He then retired in early 2000. LaVerne was a member of Burke Lutheran Church, was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Elks in Madison, and a Zor Shriner of Madison.

He is survived by his sweetheart, Carol; children, Pat Bostad of Connecticut, Nancy (Ken) Kokesh of Waunakee, Connie Bostad of Colorado, Jackie (Dan) Frosch of Merrimac, and Karen (Jim) Doering of Menomonee Falls; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Marshall (Shirley) Bostad; and a sister, Elaine Bostad. He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Rae Gerbitz. Funeral services will be held at Burke Lutheran Church, 5720 Portage Road, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 6, 2013, with Pastor Margo Martens presiding.

Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 5, 2013, and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Monday. Memorials may be made to Burke Lutheran Church. A special thank you to the staff at Oakwood East.
