Kenneth Edward Roach

Kenneth (Kenny, "KR") Edward Roach, age 94, of Janesville, died peacefully at home on Sunday, June 9, 2013, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on Feb. 15, 1919, in Janesville, to Edward and Ella (Sullivan) Roach. He married the love of his life, Mary Babcock, on Flag Day, June 14, 1947. They would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary this week. Ken worked at Parker Pen Company for 46 years while working numerous other jobs to support his family. During WWII, Ken was stationed on the island of Saipan in the South Pacific serving in the 20th Air Force as a radar technician. On May 4th of this year, he had the privilege of participating in the Badger Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. It was an amazing experience for Ken and his family – he is a hero to all of us. Ken was a man of deep faith and was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church, where he served as an usher for many years and a dedicated Scout Leader. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose and the VFW Club Post 1621. Ken was a boisterous Irishman, living life to the fullest and was a devoted family man. Ken and Mary loved special times with their many children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as other relatives and dear friends. He loved gardening, traveling, camping, hunting, fishing and watching the Badgers and Packers.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary; 9 children: Mike (Barbara) of New York, Colleen (Charlie) Ries of Madison, Jim of California, Patti (Jim) Nolan of Hartland, Rose (Nels) Nelson of Janesville, Jerry (Michelle) of Fitchburg, Tim (Heidi) of Middleton, Bill (Nan) of Madison, Bob of Janesville; daughter-in-law, Karen Roach of Middleton; 32 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Vincent; 2 sons, Dan and Dick; and great grandson, Aiden.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2013, at ST. JOHN VIANNEY CATHOLIC CHURCH with Rev. Randy Timmerman officiating. A visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at St. John Vianney Catholic Church and again on Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Church. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Lasting memorials may be made to Mercy Hospice or St. John Vianney Catholic Church. SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY is assisting the family.

A heartfelt thanks to all of the "angels" from Mercy Hospice for the exceptional care and support given to Ken and his family- he loved them all. A special thanks to St. John Vianney Parish for all of their support and prayers during this difficult time.

Because someone we know is in Heaven there's a little bit of Heaven in our home. Thanks for the memories Papa. We all love you very much.
