Kenneth E. Lewis, age 82, of Dodgeville, passed away peacefully, following a stroke, on Sunday, September 15, 2013, at St. Mary’s Hospital with his loving family by his side.
Ken was born on May 3, 1931, to Warren and Alice (Nelson) Lewis. He was a 1949 graduate of the Dodgeville High School and proudly served as Aviation Machinist in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955. Ken married Shirley Tomas, on January 21, 1956, and together, they farmed North of Dodgeville on the Nelson Homestead Farm until 1970. Ken then worked for the Wisconsin River Development Corporation and the City of Dodgeville until his retirement. He volunteered as a driver for Iowa County Commission on Aging for several years. Ken was a longtime member of the Dodgeville United Methodist Church.
Ken is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Shirley, of Dodgeville; three daughters, Lynn (Jeff) Martin of Dodgeville; Jean (Tom) Phelps of Madison and Diane (Rob) Lund of Watertown; six grandchildren, Tara Martin, Allison Martin (Jude) Bloom, Erika Lund, Jennifer Phelps, Tyler Phelps and Lauren Lund; three great-grandchildren, Avery Sandker, Miriam and Corrine Bloom. He is also survived by a sister, Ruth (Paul) Maughan of Pekin, Illinois; sisters-in-law Barb Tomas and Betty Viney and many loving relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Dona (Eddie) Berryman and brothers-in-law Clifford Tomas and Charlie Viney.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 20, 2013 at the Dodgeville United Methodist Church with Pastor Rom A. Pegram officiating. Friends may call at the church on Friday after 9:30 A.M. Private family inurnment will be in East Side Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
