Kathlyn A. Zitzer, age 96, of Janesville, died on Sunday, March 2, 2014, at St. Mary's Hospital in Janesville. She was born in Janesville on June 26, 1917, to William and Margaret (Lamont) McGowan, who where originally from County Down, Ireland. Katie graduated from Janesville High School, and as a young woman moved to Milwaukee. She was working at the telephone company and living at the YWCA when a mutual friend introduced her to Adolph Zitzer, a dashing bellman at the Wisconsin Hotel. They were married in Gering, NE on August 25, 1939. Adolph preceded her in death on October 12, 2002. They were married for 63 years. Katie had a fantastic sense of style. She was a meticulous homemaker and to her final days was a warm and gracious hostess.
Katie is survived by her two sons, William (Sharon) Zitzer of Janesville and Daniel (Margaret) Zitzer of Bayside, WI; four grandchildren: Sean Zitzer of Minneapolis, MN, Shannon Zitzer of Janesville, Katie Zitzer and Henry Zitzer both of Bayside WI; and one great-grandchild, Ruger Bluhm of Janesville. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by six siblings: William McGowan, Virginia Rose, Gertrude Struebin, Margaret Truesdill, James McGowan, and Hamilton McGowan. She also is survived by many other relatives and friends.
A Private Family Service will be held. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY is assisting the family.
