Karen Mildred Gregerson was born January 27, 1920, to Oscar and Karen (Anderson) Nordby in Oak Park, Illinois, and moved to Cary with her family as a young child. After graduating from Crystal Lake High School, she worked at the Cary Post Office. In 1946, she married Olaf Gregerson, of Wisconsin Dells. They made their home in Cary until Olaf’s retirement, when they fulfilled long-cherished plans and built a home near Olaf’s family in Wisconsin.
While raising her children and for many years afterward, Mildred worked as a secretary for the Cary School District. She served as an elected member of the school board, as member and later president of the PTA, and, for twenty-five years, as treasurer of the Cary Methodist Church. Her devotion to community and her unfailing generosity to others made a difference in many lives. Mildred is survived by her two daughters, Linda Gregerson, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Karen Gregerson, of Cincinnati, Ohio; her sons-in-law Steven Mullaney and Nelson Horseman; her four grandchildren, Emma and Megan Mullaney, Rebecca and Mark Hamlyn; her sister, Evelyn Coffman; and by many beloved members of the extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband Olaf Gregerson and her sister Coreen Pichen. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mildred’s honor may be made to the Newport Lutheran Cemetery Association, 1132 Capital Street, Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin 53965.
