MADISON, Wis. -

June B. Penniston, age 84, passed away on October 17, 2013, surrounded by her husband and sons at Oakwood East. She was born on June 2, 1929, in Racine, the daughter of Holger and Cora (Petersen) Larsen. She married Keith Penniston on December 8, 1979.

June enjoyed fishing, playing cards, shopping and bowling. She was an afghan artist, who knitted and crocheted many hats and scarves for her family and friends. June and Keith loved to travel. They have spent their last 16 winters in Arizona and took a memorable trip to Denmark and other Scandinavian countries, where June had a great time meeting her relatives. June served on the Tomah Area Library Advisory Board and volunteered in the hair salon at Juliette Manor Nursing Home in Berlin.

She is survived by her husband, Keith; sons, Huck Johnston and Greg Kubly; a grandson, Steven Johnston; her step-children, Tom (Betsy) Penniston, and Jody (Jim) Hunn; and a sister, Betty Hertig.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Buddy and Jerome; and a sister, Sonia.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 22, 2013, at FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF WAUNAKEE, 5763 County Road Q, with the Rev. Kirk Morledge and the Rev. Ben Ehrets presiding. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to First Presbyterian Church of Waunakee or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Oakwood East, St. Jude Hospice staff and especially to Dr. Siebert and Mary Peat.
