John "Sonny" W. Puccio, 80, of Dubuque, IA passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2016 at University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, IA.
There will be no services and a private family burial with military honors accorded will be held at a later date. The Haudenshield Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Cuba City, WI is serving the family.
John was born on December 19, 1935 to Joseph & Ethyl (Davis) Puccio in Dubuque, IA. He married Lulabelle Fishnick December 29, 1956 in Dubuque, IA. John was always helping family and friends with various projects. He was a US Army Veteran serving 2 tours in Vietnam and served 12 years as military police. John was an Army Recruiter for Dubuque and Marshalltown, IA. Retiring after 20 years with the rank of a Sfc E7 in 1981, John received the Soldier's Metal of Honor, one of the highest honors advanced during peace time. He enjoyed hunting fishing, an avid card player, playing the slots, country music, bowling, boxing, a Miami Dolphins fan, but most of all he enjoyed time spent with his family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
John is survived by 2 sons: Mark Puccio of Dubuque, IA and John Puccio of Colorado; 7 grandchildren: Ryan, Jacob, Christopher, Colton, Johnny Jr., Emily & Sophia; 2 brothers, Donald Puccio of Dubuque, IA and Rodney Carr; a sister, Shirley Wiegman of Hazel Green, WI; a special friend, Kent "Doc" Hillary; along with nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lulabelle (January 2, 2004); a daughter, Lisa Marie Puccio; a granddaughter, Leah Marie; 6 brothers: Sam, Ronald, William, Allen, Joe & Thomas; a sister, Barbara.
In lieu of plants & flowers a John "Sonny" W. Puccio Memorial Fund has been established.
