John Hubert Elmer, age 62, of New Glarus passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at the William S. Middleton VA Hospital in Madison.
He was born on October 10, 1951 to his parents Hubert and Marjorie (Disch) Elmer at Monroe, WI. John graduated from New Glarus High School in 1969 and then served in the U.S. Navy from 1969 to 1971 serving in Vietnam. After serving his country John returned home to work on the family farm and he also worked as a truck driver. John was first married to Cheryl Miller and then later to Debra Joyner. He was a member of the New Glarus VFW Post #10549 and the Stuessy-Kuenzi American Legion Post #141.
John is survived by his mother Marjorie Elmer of New Glarus, three sons Shawn (Amy) Elmer of Stoughton, WI, Jesse Elmer of New Glarus, WI, and Jason Elmer of Blanchardville, WI and a granddaughter Josephine Elmer. He is further survived by his sisters Beth (Carl) Jenks of Oregon, WI and Donna Specht of Berlin, Germany.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 Sixth Ave., New Glarus, WI with the Rev. Sara Thiessen officiating with burial in the Swiss Church Cemetery, New Glarus, WI.
Relatives and friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home in New Glarus.
