John Anton Bakalik

John Anton Bakalik, 90 of Mauston passed away Monday, November 21, 2016 at his home.

John was born in the Town of Chickaming, Barrien County, Michigan on December 23, 1925 the son of Joseph Anton and Louise (nee Borek) Bakalik.

He was united in marriage to Lois Ptak in Chicago, Illinois. John entered the US Navy on January 11, 1943 serving on the USS Cowpens. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Medal (8 stars), Phillipine Liberation (2 stars), and the American Area Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged on November 25, 1945. John was a member of the Burton Koppang American Legion Post #81 and the 40 et 8. John moved to Germantown Township, Juneau County in 1957. He was a union carpenter working on many local construction projects. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his children Louise (John) Stastny, of New Lisbon, Ladd (Busara) Bakalik of Mauston, and Barry (Becky) Bakalik of Mauston.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, November 26, 2016 at the Crandall Funeral Home, Mauston where friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Chaplain Neil Jensen will officiate. Military honors will immediately follow the service provided by the Burton Koppang American Legion Post #81.
