Janet G. Olson, age 80, of Madison, passed away peacefully on Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, at her daughter’s home.
She was born on Sept. 7, 1933, in Madison, the daughter of Herbert and Madalene (Wilson) Dockstader. Janet graduated from East High School in 1951 and married Nicholis Olson on Aug. 23, 1952, at Bethel Lutheran Church. She and her husband owned and operated N.M. Olson Distributing Company from 1965 until 1997. Janet volunteered as a reader at Lakeview Elementary School and at Meriter Hospital rocking babies and crocheting baby hats. Most of all, Janet was the proud matriarch of Java Cat.
Janet is survived by her daughter, Shari Olson (Renee Raspiller); grandchildren, Nicholis (Melanie), Cal (Mary Alice), and Lindsey Schroeder; great-grandson, Shane and expected great-grandson, Malik; her sister, Nancy (Butch) Rabl and children, Kaylen and LeAnn; and her aunt, Rebecca Jorgensen. She is further survived by extended family, Les Schroeder, Al Blanch, and daughter-in-law, Jo Olson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sons, Roby and Rick.
Funeral services for Janet will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, with Donna Grossman officiating. Private burial will be at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until the time of service on Tuesday. Memorials may be directed to Agrace HospiceCare.
