James Marvin Sanders, age 81, of Richland Center passed peacefully on January 9, 2014 after a brief illness and hospitalization, surrounded by several loving family members honoring his desire to be home.
He is survived by his wife and right hand woman, Marilyn (Oates), to whom he was married for 62 years.
His four sons and their wives: Dale and Wendy of Mukwonago, Steve and Peggy of Viola, Mark and Sue of Bolivia, NC, Chris and Angie of Southaven, MS,
Five great grandchildren.
James was preceded in death by his sister Audrey Anne Knezel, his mother Audrey Ione (Sweet) and his father Joseph Edward Sanders, all of Beloit, WI.
After serving in the United States Navy during the Korean War, Jim apprenticed as a foundryman, and went on to a rewarding career serving in several leadership roles throughout the foundry industry, repeatedly being recognized and awarded for his unique innovations. He retired from the Richland Center Foundry in 1997. He enjoyed bowling and was an avid golfer and long time member of the Quail Run Country Club. His passion for golf lives on through his children and grandchildren. He was a 40 year member of the American Foundrymen’s Society, a member of Lions, and a member of the Town and Country Presbyterian church. Jim loved to travel with Marilyn and explore new places. The sparkle in his eyes and his tender smile could be spotted miles away when visiting his grandchildren and their families. Jim was very artistic and left his legacy through several cherished paintings and drawings.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Pratt Memorial Chapel where military rites will be provided by the Local Military Memorial Honor Unit. Friends may call at the Pratt Memorial Chapel on Saturday, January 11, 2014 from 1:00 PM until the time of the service at 2:00 PM. A burial service will be held on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at the Fancy Creek Cemetery. The family suggests memorials in Jim’s name be directed to the Richland County Veteran’s Memorial or the Center Cinema Twins. The Pratt Funeral and Cremation Service is assisting the family with their arrangements.
