ARLINGTON-James Maertz, age 62, of Arlington, passed away unexpectedly on August 20, 2013 at St. Mary’s Hospital.
He was born on December 3, 1950 in Madison, the son of Henry and Hazel (Lawrence) Maertz. James married Linda Luther on June 30, 1973. He was a Vietnam Veteran that served his country proudly. Jim worked for Madison Metro and retired in 2008. He will be remembered most by his completely quirky sense of humor, his extremely kind heart, and the dedication and commitment he gave to everyone he encountered. He was a great dad, husband, grandpa, father-in-law, companion, brother, and uncle. His character was so strong that everyone will take a part of his strength with them, and pay it forward to their loved ones. He competed and won several medals in the Veterans Wheelchair Olympics, always pushing it to the next level. He avidly enjoyed hunting, spending time with family, watching the Packers, telling jokes, whooping people at Wii and Euchre, and coaching his daughters through the many lessons of life.
James Maertz is survived by his wife, Linda; daughters, Tammy Boyce, Sara and Heather Maertz; parents-in-law, Jim and Marge Luther; siblings and their other halves, Steve, Randy and Lynn, Butch and Kathy, Greg, Chris and Tom Pieper; sons-in-laws, Justin Schilling, Ben Boyce and Chris Graber; grandkids Isaac, Isabella, Adelyn, Kimberly, Kiara, Lola and Jameson, and his Bestie Shadow. He is preceded in death by his mother and father Hank and Hazel Maertz.
Funeral Services will be held at ST. PETER’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 303 Park St., Arlington at 11:00 AM, on Saturday, August 24, 2013 with Reverend Marion Hendrickson officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until the time of the serve at the church.
In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to the Veterans Wheelchair Olympics or American Family Children’s Hospital.
