Madison – James M. “Jim” McNelly, age 86, died on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg.

Jim was born on April 15, 1928 in Lancaster, the son of Stephen and Caroline (Taylor) McNelly.

He graduated from Madison West High School in 1946 and proudly served in the US Navy and Air Force. In 1948 Jim met Patricia Colligan, the love of his life, while attending the University of Wisconsin. They were united in marriage on December 30, 1950. After retirement he enjoyed being able to accompany Pat to New Zealand for a year while she worked there as a consultant. In 1988 Pat joined him in retirement and together they traveled around the US in their motorhome. They enjoyed wintering in Florida and in 1991 made Florida their permanent home, where they especially enjoyed playing golf and entertaining family and friends. In 2012 they returned to Madison to be near family.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years Pat; children Stephen (Wendy) McNelly, Thomas McNelly, William (Debra) McNelly, Richard (Susan) McNelly and Mary (Alan) Tedeschi; eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
