James Frederick Peterson, age 67 of Reedsburg, formerly of Blanchardville and Sauk Prairie, died on Friday, October 25, 2013 at the St. Clare Hospice House in Baraboo.
He was born on September 9, 1946 at the St. Claire Hospital in Monroe to Walter E. & Georgia M. (Garfield) Peterson. He attended the Blanchardville grade and high school, graduating in 1964. Jim worked summers in high school and college in his father’s business, the Blanchardville Motor Co. He went on to college at U. W. Platteville, graduating with a B. S. in Education in 1969, and later went on to earn his M. S. in Education in 1988. Jim began teaching English at Sauk Prairie High School in Prairie du Sac, where he taught until he retired in 2001. He enjoyed working with his students and was very proud of their accomplishments. Jim served as a Forensics Coach, and was a Ski Club co-advisor during his years at Sauk Prairie High School.
In 1988 Jim married the love of his life, Susan Lageson. After his retirement, Jim and Sue moved back to Blanchardville for four years. During that time Jim was active with a group of local people in working to have the Wisconsin Department of Transportation update and improve State Highway 78 which runs through the village.
It was at this time that Jim became reacquainted with God. He rejoined Perry Lutheran Church in rural Mt. Horeb, the church where he was baptized and confirmed. He was a member of the Perry church council, church choir, and treasurer of the Perry Historical Center at Perry Lutheran. During this time, Jim also built the church website.
Jim enjoyed traveling, hunting, and collecting antiques. The last four years he and Sue enjoyed wintering in the Texas Hill Country. Jim enjoyed playing pool with his son-in-law, Floyd, and enjoyed time with his step daughter, Anji and his three grand daughters,
In 2007 Jim and Sue moved to Reedsburg. Jim loved Reedsburg and its people. He had many dear neighbors and friends in the community and at St. John Lutheran where he was a member. He enjoyed his Tuesday night pool playing with his friends in their homes and his Wednesday morning breakfasts with the DNC (Do Nothing Club).
Jim is survived by his wife, Sue Peterson of Reedsburg; step daughter, Anjanet (Floyd) Robertson; three grand daughters: Lauren, Summer, and Jaz; a sister, Jean Johnson; a niece, Nancy Johnson; and a nephew, Bruce Johnson. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his brother George, who died in infancy.
A visitation for Jim will be held on Tuesday morning, October 29, 2013 from 9:30 until 11:30 AM at the Perry Lutheran Church (9 miles south of Mt. Horeb on Highway 78) with a funeral service to follow at 11:30. Rev. Sara Gillespie will officiate. Burial will be in the Perry Lutheran Church cemetery. Then lunch will follow in the church.
