James D. Burnard, age 83, of New Glarus passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at the New Glarus Home. He was born on October 5, 1930 to his parents Gerald and Ina (Hollenbeck) Burnard at La Crosse, WI. Jim graduated in 1948 from Viroqua High School. He then served in the United States Army and Wisconsin National Guard attaining the rank of First Lieutenant. Jim was united in marriage to Odella Solverson at the Viroqua Lutheran Church in 1951. He retired from Land O’ Lakes in 1995 after previously working for New Glarus Feed and Fuel. Jim was a member of the Swiss United Church of Christ in New Glarus, the Masonic Lodge #310, and the Stuessy Kuenzi American Legion Post #141. He also coached little league baseball, golfed, and helped at the Swiss Historical Village in New Glarus.
Jim is survived by his wife Odella of New Glarus, WI, sons Eric (Kay) Quinney-Burnard of Fairport, NY and Jon Burnard of Bangkok, Thailand, grandchildren Cavin Burnard, Amanda Prellwitz, Amber Prellwitz, and a great-grandson Jeremy Schantner. He is further survived by a sister Darlene McHenry of Viroqua, WI.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Betty Dees, and a daughter Candace.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the New Glarus Home Chapel, 600 Second Ave (access via the Elm Dr. entrance), with the Rev. Larry Collins officiating. A masonic service will follow the memorial service, along with military honors. Committal of cremains will take place at the Swiss Church Cemetery in New Glarus after all services.
A gathering or relatives and friends will precede the memorial service from 10:00 a.m. until time of service on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the New Glarus Home Chapel (access via Elm Dr.).
The Zentner-Beal Funeral Home of New Glarus is serving the family.
