MADISON-Henry "Hank" Maly, age 84, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013, at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born on Jan. 14, 1929, in Madison, to Henry Sr. and Marie (Benzmiller) Maly. Hank graduated from Madison East High School, and served in the US Navy. While home on leave, he met Patricia Feeney, the love of his life, and they were united in marriage on Valentine's Day in 1953. Hank was an officer with the Madison Police Department for several years before going to work as a supervisor for Oscar Mayer. He retired in 1990, after more than 30 years with the company.
Hank loved the outdoors, and passed that love on to his children and grandchildren through time spent at their cottage on the Wisconsin River. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and only a fool would challenge him to a trout fishing contest. Hank will be dearly missed at Camp Couderay. He was very proud of the time he spent as a volunteer for Meriter Hospital, bringing smiles to everyone he met.
Henry is survived by his children, Cheryl Jones of Madison, Dean (Gail) Maly of McFarland, and Lisa (Tim) Petersen of McFarland; grandchildren, Laura (David) Hehl, Dawn (Kenny) Irish, Jennifer Maly, Benjamin (Sarah) Maly, Megan (Nathan) Rohde, and Seth (Sara) Petersen; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and sister, Gaynold Maly. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Patricia; his parents; and infant brother.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2450 Atwood Ave., Madison, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, with Father Michael Radowicz presiding.
