Henrietta Mae McCaulley

HOLLANDALE - Henrietta "Hankie" Mae McCaulley, age 87, of Hollandale, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, surrounded by her children at the St. Mary's Care Center in Madison.

Hankie was born on May 1, 1926, to Henry and Loretta (Dochnahl) Schaaf and was raised on the homestead farm in Mineral Point, WI. She graduated from Mineral Point High School, attended nurses training, and had a 45-year-long career caring for patients in the Dodgeville area.

She married Harold F. McCaulley on Nov. 19, 1947. They were married for 60 years and raised a large family on the McCaulley family farm in rural Iowa County from 1947 to 1983. Hankie led a hardworking simple life guided by her deep Catholic faith, gratitude, and love. Hankie loved to travel, do puzzles, and crochet. She was proud to have made and gifted more than 200 afghans. Yet Hankie's greatest fulfillment came from caring for her family and others. She was a beautiful example of living a life full of grace.

She was preceded in death by infant son Leon, infant great-grandson Calum, daughter Annette Perrin, her beloved husband Harold F. McCaulley; 7 siblings, infant Mary, Anne Cutler, Mary Henkel, infant Joseph, John, Paul, and Vincent.

She is survived by her 9 children, James (Vicki) McCaulley, Bette McCaulley, Mary Faith (Ralph) Welling, Margaret (Daniel) Reim, Marcia (Paul) McCaulley, Jeanne (Frank) Vitale, Thomas (Kathy) McCaulley, Mark (Krista) McCaulley, and Jacqueline (Neal) Goldstein; as well as 23 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Hankie has 3 surviving siblings: Harold Peter Schaaf, Dorothy Saar, and Charlotte Douglas.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at ST. PATRICK'S CATHOLIC CHURCH in Hollandale. Father Thomas Gillespie will officiate. Inurnment will be held in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass on Tuesday at the church.

The family would like to express deep appreciation to the entire staff at both The Gardens-Independent Living and St. Mary's Care Center.
