Madison, Helen Carol Fries, aged 96, of Madison passed away Monday October 14, 2013 at Agrace Hospice in Fitchburg surrounded by family.

She was born in Richland County, Wisconsin on August 23, 1917 to Charles and Bertha (Bennett) Bateson. She married Alfred Earl Fries on September 18, 1936 in Rockford, Ill. She was a resident of Madison for seventy plus years and was a devoted homemaker. She was a crossing guard for nine years with the city of Madison Police Department. Helen loved playing cards, listening to music, dancing, and good cooked meals.

Helen is survived by daughters, Nancy (Frank) Provenzano of Madison and Beverly (Jack) Fortney of Las Vegas; grandchildren Mark (Sue) Provenzano, Jill (Dave) Trulson, John (Kristin) Provenzano, Lori Grenschaw, Kevin Church, Kelly Church, and Ryan (Michelle) Church; ten great grandchildren: Jennifer, Andrew, Brett, Ellie, Derek, Kayley, Dylan, Tyler, Chloe, and Michaela; one great-great grandchild Kaliya; and two sister-in-laws Louise Fries and Camilla Smith. Helen is preceded in death by husband, parents, and one brother Donald Bateson.

Visitation will be held Saturday October 19, 2013 from 10:00am to 11:00am at the Cress Center, 6021 University Ave., Madison, WI. 53705 with services to follow at 11:00am. Burial will be held at Button Cemetery in Lone Rock Wisconsin at 3:00pm.
