Harvey Orlando Barsness, age 91, passed away at the Pines Assisted Living in Prairie du Sac on Thursday, February 20, 2014. He was born June 2, 1922 at home in the Township of Vermont to the late Herman and Otelia (Erickson) Barsness. He was united in marriage to Gloria D. Schmid on June 5, 1945; she preceded him in death on December 8, 2009. Harvey and Gloria farmed on the family farm in Vermont Township for 6 years before moving to Mt. Horeb in 1951.

He worked as a Township Patrolman for Springdale Township for 15 years, and later as a skilled laborer for Dane County Hiway Department in Madison for 20 years until his retirement in 1986. Harvey and Gloria later moved to Prairie du Sac in 1994. They enjoyed traveling with their pet dogs and spending time outdoors and fishing in Northern Wisconsin.

He is survived by his daughter, Sharon (Keith) Schulz, Prairie du Sac; 2 grandchildren, Mike (Tiki Wendt) Adler, Merrimac, Shelly (Mike Ballard) Adler, Spring Green; 5 great-grandchildren, Courtney (Kevin), Carly, Evan, Danielle, and David; 3 great-great grandchildren, Ryland, Brooklyn, and Jaxon; a former daughter in-law Lisa Harris; special dog Maggie; many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by 7 siblings.

Harvey’s family would like to thank the staff at the Pines Assisted Living and Agrace Hospice for their wonderful care of Harvey. As per Harvey’s wishes, a private family graveside service will be held in the spring.
