MARSHALL/MADISON -Harold James Johnson, age 80, passed away on Tuesday, 11-12-13, in Madison.
He was born on 11-20-32, in Poynette, the son of Bert and Etta Mae (Mc Farlane) Johnson. Harold graduated from Poynette High School in 1951. He married Ferne (Bauer), on June 5, 1954. Harold is a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Madison.
Harold and Ferne, wife of 59 years, lived in Madison and he retired as a Lieutenant of the Madison Police department after 33 years. After retirement, they moved to Marshall to enjoy retirement for 26 years. Harold served in the U.S. Army in Germany. He was a past President of the Wisconsin Professional Police Association and was the first President of the Friendship Force of Wisconsin. Harold was a member of the American Legion Post No. 279. He was an avid hunter and fisherman sharing his enthusiasm with friends and family. He and his wife enjoyed many years together traveling; spending ample time at Deans Court, Minocqua, WI, on Diamond Lake with friends and family. Harold enjoyed his time with his grandchildren and watching their many activities.
Harold is survived by his wife, Ferne (Bauer) Johnson; daughter, April (Brian) Meiller of Madison; son, Rob (Ann) Johnson of West Bend; grandchildren, Jordan and Megan Meiller, Madison, Hunter, Sawyer and Hayden Johnson of West Bend; brother, Maurice (Gerry) of Cedar City, Utah; three sisters, Marlene Shaw of Lodi, Margie (Harold) Miller of Meza, Ariz., Judy (Gary) Hahn of Waunakee; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Stuart Johnson; sister, Ruth Wolf; and brothers-in law, Carl Wolf and Robert Kinney; nephews, Jimmy Kinney and Richard Wolf, as well as a long time hunting companion, Lew Owens.
Funeral services for Harold will be held at BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 312 Wisconsin Ave., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, with Pastor Curtis Everson presiding. Private family burial will be at Arlington Evangelical Cemetery. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, as well as from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church on Saturday.
