FITCHBURG -

Harold J. "Red" Zweifel, age 93, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2013, at the Veteran’s Hospital.

He was born on July 8, 1919, in Mt. Horeb, the son of Anton and Anna (Brieler) Zweifel. Red was the beloved husband of Ruby M. Larsen for 50 years, loving father of Susan (Pete) Lahm, loving grandfather to Mathew (Brenda) Lahm, and best great-grandpa to Mason Lahm. Red served during World War II in Patton’s army. He owned a bar, managed a nightclub, delivered dry cleaning and milk, sold Fuller Brushes, drove semi, and plowed snow for the city of Madison. Red finally retired (briefly) as a supervisor at the new city recycling center. He then went on working to age 85.

Red and Ruby wintered in Florida and loved spending time on the water at their many homes on Lake Wisconsin. Red’s love as a father was unconditional and unending.

Red is further survived by his children of his first marriage, Wayne (Carolyn) Zweifel, Jan (Larry) Bushinger, and Jim (Judy) Zweifel and their families.

Red was preceded in death by his wife Ruby, his parents, three brothers and an "infant" sister.
