MADISON -

Gordon George "Gordy" Voit, age 86, died unexpectedly of natural causes.

He was "ready to go home" and his heart just stopped beating on Friday, June 14, 2013.

He was born in Blooming Grove on Oct. 25, 1926, the second of three sons to Erhardt "E.C." and Sarah (Showers) Voit. Gordy graduated from Madison East High School in 1944 and then attended and graduated from the UW-Madison Agriculture Short Course. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth "Liz" Wolff of Arlington, on July 8, 1949. Together they had a wonderful marriage of nearly 46 years.

Gordy worked at the family businesses all his adult life, E.C. Voit & Sons, the family farm, and Regas (which stands for Richard, Erhardt, Gordon, Arthur, Sarah) Company. The farm has been in the family since 1878. For many years Gordy helped maintain the farm and built two houses there. To his dying day, he made daily tours of the properties along Regas Road, the street named for his family.

Gordy was a proud member of the East Side Club, (formally East Side Businessmen's Association located on Monona Drive) and served as president in 2001. He was also a member of the Elk's Lodge. He served as a volunteer fireman for the Blooming Grove Fire Dept.

Gordy's hobbies included boating, playing cards, bowling, touring gravel pits, and he made socializing a form of art.

With his wife, Liz, they raised five children, JoAnn Gilmore, of Caledonia, Roger (the late Marcia) of McFarland, Dennis (Diane), of Waukesha, Judy (Matt) Underwood of Madison, and Karen (Dan) Wall, of Sussex. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, Eddy (Shawna) Gilmore, Caitlin (Mark) Bilderback, Jenni (Eric) Weber, Greta Voit, Sarah (Pat) Detmer, Rachel and Steve Underwood, Andrea, Ryan and Meghan Wall; six great-grandchildren, Josiah, Emma, Ava, Claira, Parker and Dylan; sisters-in-law, Charlotte Ramsfield, and Alice Johnson Henke; brother-in-law, Harold (Marlene) Wolff; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elizabeth in 1995; brothers, Arthur (Peg) and Dick (Doris); sisters-in-law, Margaret (Art) Pearson, and Helen (Herb) Henke; brother-in-law, Carl Ramsfield; daughter-in-law, Marcia Voit; and dear friend, Marie Madsen.

Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 19, 2013.

Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park, alongside his wife, Elizabeth.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2013. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Gordy's name to East Side Club for a memorial to be established.

The family wishes to thank the members of East Side Club and Elk's Lodge, and friends who supported him through his wife’s medical condition, and over the years, including his own recovery since 2008.
