MADISON-Gloria Neome Helgerson, age 79, passed away on Nov. 13, 2013, at Oak Park in Madison.
She was born on Nov. 13, 1934, the daughter of Neal and Gladys Nelson. She graduated from Gays Mills High School in 1952. Gloria moved to Madison after High School and worked for University Hospital as a nurse’s aide in the new born area.
Gloria was united in marriage to Ronald Wayne Helgerson on Jan. 5, 1957, in Mount Sterling. She worked as a cook for LaFollette High School most of her career. Gloria also worked for Dr. Gardocki, DDS and retired from John Muir Elementary School as a teacher’s aide working with autistic children. She enjoyed working for Artisan Gift Shop part-time. Gloria thoroughly enjoyed watching her kids sporting events, bowling, gardening, golfing, and baking. She carried on the family tradition of making Lefse for the holiday family gatherings. Gloria especially enjoyed playing cards with her card club group who were together over 50 years. Her faith was strong. She was the circle treasurer at Lake Edge Lutheran for several years. Gloria enjoyed making baked goods for the annual bake sale and attending circle. She also enjoyed travelling to Arizona each year and the annual camping trip to Door County.
Gloria is survived by her son, Randy (Colleen) of Cottage Grove; daughters, Rhonda (Sally) of Ariz. and Renee (Tim) Ryan of Cottage Grove; grandchildren, Kyle (Liz) and Cody Ryan; great-grandson, Jackson; sister, LaVon Nelson of Ariz.; three sisters-in-law, Joyce (Julius) Ward of Muscoda, Cheryl (Jim) Kinney of Richland Center, and Margaret (Neal) Nelson of Janesville; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ronald Wayne Helgerson; and brothers, Nordeen and Neal Nelson Jr.
Memorial services will be held at LAKE EDGE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 4032 Monona Dr., Monona, at Noon on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, with Pastor Stephen Marsh presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday.
