Gertrude K. "Gert" Peterson

Gertrude K. "Gert" (Torgeson) Peterson, age 91, of Dodgeville, passed away on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at Upland Hills Health. Born April 7, 1921 on the Torgeson homestead, on the Southern ridge of Norwegian Hollow, the daughter of Elizabeth Jane (Rogers) Torgeson and Gullick H. Torgeson. She attended Wayside Country School and graduated from Dodgeville High School in 1939. Graduated from U.W. Platteville and U.W. Madison. Taught in rural schools for 3 years, Ridgeway State Graded School and the Dodgeville Elementary School (34 years) for a total of 46 years, retiring in 1987.

Gert married Lester E. Peterson on March 12, 1942. They lived their married life in Dodgeville. She was confirmed in the Grace Lutheran Church of Dodgeville and has been a devoted member since. She served as Sunday School Superintendent and worked with the Sunday School for over 50 years. She was president of the Church Women and served on Church Council and Property Committees. She was the Church Historian and Librarian. Gert was a member of Mary Circle, Retired Teachers and Gov. Dodge Rebekah Lodge. Lester and Gert enjoyed 68 years of marriage. They both loved traveling. She enjoyed reading and quilting. She especially enjoyed her nieces and nephews and family gatherings.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester; her parents and siblings Roger Torgeson, Rhoda Leffler, Elizabeth Schwartz, Ruth Evans, Mary Nezki and Charles Torgeson. Gert is survived by her nephew, C. Kenneth (Betty) Leffler of Dodgeville; her nieces, Eleanor (Steve) Morstad of Monroe; Sherry (Randy) Ohl and Patti (Tim) Koepnick both of Delavan; many great nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law Emma Jean (Charles) Torgeson of Delavan.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Grace Lutheran Church in Dodgeville. Pastor Steven R. Kottke will officiate with burial in East Side Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Monday at the Lulloff-Peterson-Houck Funeral Home in Dodgeville and at the church on Tuesday after 10:00 A.M.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Grace Lutheran Church would be greatly appreciated.
