George W. "Bill" Heimerl Jr.

George W. "Bill" Heimerl Jr. age 86 died on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at Columbus Community Hospital. He was born on November 10, 1926 in Medford to George and Myrtle (Simerson) Heimerl. Bill was a 1944 graduate of Medford High School. He attended the Wisconsin State Teachers College at Stevens Point and the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Bill was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy where he served on four different aircraft carriers. He was married to Marianne Simonson on July 29, 1950 in Wausau. Bill operated Heimerl's Variety store in Medford for 15 years. He then worked for Midland Cooperatives as a territory sales representative in southern Wisconsin serving in that same capacity when Midland merged with Land O' Lakes until his retirement in August of 1988. Bill was a charter member of the Columbus Lions Club and through the years served as secretary, treasurer, vice president and president. He had a life-long interest in airplanes and was a licensed pilot. He had to give up flying when he suffered a heart attack in 1995. He became involved in building and flying radio-controlled model airplanes, which was a wonderful hobby he enjoyed very much.

Survivors include his three sons, David (Allie) of Neenah, Kenneth (Anne) of Canton MI, Mark (Karen) of Mequon; two daughters, Nancy (Brian) O'Rourke of Rubicon and Mary Alice (James) Hughes of Lake Mills; 12 grandchildren, Matthew (Krista) O'Rourke, Meredith (Jason) Royer, Shane O'Rourke, Faith (David) Molnar, Kyle (Jennifer) Heimerl, Jenna Heimerl, Lindsay Heimerl, Sarah Heimerl, MaryBeth (Andrew) Houlihan, Ellie Hughes, Jessica Heimerl, Evan Heimerl; 8 great grandchildren, Navaeh, Iverson, Gavin, Ezra, Brooklyn, Helene, Dylan, Kylie; a sister-in-law, Venee Heimerl of Appleton; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marianne in 2010; one sister, Barbara Partridge; one brother, Lorin.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, February 8, 2013 at ST. JEROME CATHOLIC CHURCH, Columbus. Rev. Steve Kortendick will officiate. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Columbus with full military honors. Visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. at the church on Friday. Memorials may be directed to St. Jerome Endowment Fund, Columbus Community Hospital, Wisconsin Lions Camp, or the Columbus Public Library.
