Francis A. “Fran” Weisensel, age 81, passed away unexpectedly on
Thursday, November 9, 2017 at University Hospital. He was born on
August 26, 1936 in Columbus, WI the oldest son of Walter and Grace
(Deter) Weisensel. He married Beverly Vanderhoef on June 29, 1963 at
Sacred Hearts Catholic Church in Sun Prairie. Fran worked for
American Breeder Services (ABS) in DeForest for over 50 years.
Through his years there, he did everything from working as a herdsman
and supervisor to transporting cattle and doing lawn care.
Fran was a member of St. Olaf Catholic Church and was very active with
the Knights of Columbus, as a 3rd Degree Knight. He loved fishing,
hunting, camping and traveling throughout the U.S. and Canada,
gardening, bowling, volunteering with church, attending fish frys and
swimming at PAC.
He is survived by his siblings: Betty Droster, Marion Kittleson,
Doris (Mark) Garfoot and Leeander Weisensel; many nieces and nephews;
dear friends, Everett and Candy Beulter; brother-in-law, Orville
Vitzthum and many other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bev; his parents; siblings,
Ruben, Norman, Catherine (Stephen) Anderson, Stanley and Leslie;
in-laws, Darlene Vitzthum, Cindy (Jerry) Davis, Harold Droster and
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday,
November 15, 2017 at St. Olaf Catholic Church, 623 Jefferson Street,
DeForest, with Fr. Vincent Brewer officiating. Visitation will be
held from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Ryan Funeral Home,
6924 Lake Road, DeForest and also from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass
on Wednesday at the church. Burial will be at St. Olaf Catholic
