MADISON-Frances L. Bergemann, age 92, passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2013, at Agrace HospiceCare.
Frances was the seventh and youngest child of Frank and Jenny Caruso, and was proud of her Italian heritage. She graduated from Central High School, attended Madison Business College, and pursued her love of tap dancing at Kehls School of Dance. Frances worked as a bridal consultant and sales associate at Capitol Square department stores.
She married Larry Bergemann on Sept. 1, 1945, and was devoted to their seven children. Frances was an excellent cook, baker and seamstress. She enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, all kinds of music, reading, and watching the Milwaukee Brewers, UW Badgers, and Green Bay Packers. While her family was growing up, her home was a haven for all of their friends. She would feed and visit with them, even if her own children were not at home. She was “Mrs. B” to everyone. Frances was vibrant and feisty as ever, and lived independently until age 90.
She is survived by six children, Peg (Jim) Montgomery, Larry Jr. (Pat) Bergemann, Jen (Dave) Hantz, Patti (Mike) Gahagan, Rick (Kari) Bergemann, and Kathy (John) Cordio; seven grandchildren, Gabe (Wendy) Bergemann, Daniel Montgomery, Patrick and Danny Gahagan, Mary, KC, and Kelly Cordio; a great-grandchild, Quintin; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry; daughter, Debra; and grandson, Tim Montgomery.
A private burial service will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation (amdf.org).
A special thank you to the doctors, nurses, staff, and caregivers at St. Mary’s Hospital and Dean Clinics, Capitol Lakes Health Center, and Agrace HospiceCare.
Frances was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. We learned by her example. God blessed us with an amazing mother.
